When you are renovating your kitchen, there are generally two options to a kitchen cabinet: assembled or ready to assemble.
Assembled kitchen cabinets are delivered fully assembled, built at the manufacturer and mostly ready to be installed in the home. Ready to Assemble, or RTA kitchen cabinets are delivered in a form that is unassembled commonly referred to as ‘flat packed’.
RTA cabinets require the consumer or a hired professional to put together and build the cabinets at the location that they are being installed. The cabinet is in a broken down state and will require a little extra work from the installer, however, are generally offered at a much lower price.
Think about this: with an assembled kitchen cabinet set, the manufacturer needs to put the cabinets together without first knowing what your kitchen looks like, how the finished product will actually fit the kitchen interior. Secondly, these pre-built cabinets are much harder to ship as they are hollow on the inside and take up a lot of space, which means much higher shipping cost to the customer. Although that some of that dellivery cost is usually built into the cost of the assembled kitchen cabinets without the customer knowing it. More importantly, though, is the pre-built or assembled cabinets are more prone to shipping damage, which again adds to the already higher shipping cost.
With these reasons explained, most retail customers choose RTA cabinets, for either their kitchen or bathroom. There are many advantages to a RTA cabinet set and we will discuss just a few below.
First of all, you get your cabinets much faster, from the time of order to finally have it in your possession, since the manufacturer doesn’t have to build it for you at their warehouse. All the kitchen cabinet seller has to do is place all the necessary components of the cabinet set in a container and ship it out to you in a timely fashion. That’s it! Quick and easy! This means savings in time, and mostly importantly, in cost. If your bottom line is the dollar, then you can’t do wrong with a Ready to Assemble cabinet set for your kitchen and bath.
There are generally two ways to take delivery of a RTA kitchen cabinet set: the retailer will ship it to you or drop it off – if they are local to you, or the customer picks it up locally. Once again, if you are on a tight budget and also have the skills to assemble the cabinets on your own, good for you! For most, however, they prefer to have professional installers assemble the kitchen cabinet for them.
Almost all kitchen cabinet retailers can either refer you to or have their in-house professional crews ready to help you. That way, the professional installers can put together the cabinets in a timely fashion, and can minimize any accidental damage during the assembly. Should that occur, however, it is the installation crew’s responsibility to replace the damaged parts at no extra cost to you.
